Frequently asked questions
What is Shine Song Collective?
Shine Song Collective is a community-based movement that invites people of all backgrounds to reclaim singing, drumming, and movement as joyful, healing, and shared human expression. We host monthly song circles, performances, workshops, and community events across North Central Washington.
Do I need to be a singer or musician to join?
Not at all. We believe song is a birthright, and our gatherings are open to everyone—no experience needed.
What happens at a song circle?
We sing simple, soulful songs together, often in call-and-response or easy-to-learn layers. There’s no stage or audience—everyone is invited to participate.
What do you sing about?
We sing songs that uplift, inspire, and connect; songs about the earth, gratitude, healing, love, transformation, and belonging. Many come from oral traditions or are original compositions from our community.
What should I bring?
Just yourself, some water, and whatever helps you feel comfortable (a cushion, layers for outdoor events, a drum or shaker if you like). instruments are always optional but the main instrument at a song circle is our voice.
Do you print lyrics?
We often share lyrics aurally so you can be fully present with each other, and not looking down at your paper. Many songs are designed to be learned through repetition, so no pressure to memorize.
What if I’m tone deaf?
That’s completely okay. We’re not here to sound perfect. We’re here to feel together. Your voice matters, no matter what it sounds like.
Should we clap after each song?
Our tradition is, instead of clapping, we allow the vibration to settle in silence, giving the song space to resonate. Then we “feed” the song by offering gratitude. If something came up for you while singing, you’re invited to speak it aloud as a simple thank you:
“Thank you, song, for…”
This practice honors the song as a living presence and lets it be nourished by what it stirred in us.
Is this a religious thing?
Nope. Shine is not affiliated with any religion. We welcome people of all beliefs and backgrounds. That said, our gatherings can feel spiritual in the sense that they connect us to something bigger: community, nature, presence, and the power of shared voice. You’re invited to bring your whole self, whatever your path may be.
It sounds kind of weird. Will I like it?
We get it! Group singing can feel unfamiliar at first. But most people leave feeling uplifted, connected, and surprised by how good it feels. Come try it! You might be amazed at what opens up.
Is there a cost to attend?
Most of our events are pay what you can, and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds.
Can I bring my kids?
Yes! Most Shine events are family-friendly. Kids are welcome to sing along, dance, or just hang out.
Where are you located?
We’re based in Leavenworth, WA, and host events throughout North Central Washington.
Can I host a Shine event at my home or venue?
We’d love to connect. Reach out here to talk about co-creating a song circle or workshop in your space.
